Description
Ancient Roman Empire 1st - 3rd Century AD. Bronze Horse & Rider Design Seal Ring
This ancient Roman Empire 1st - 3rd Century AD. bronze seal ring is intriguing. The design to the front of smooth edged ring is of a group of soldiers with one mounted on a horse. The simplistic intaglio seal design would have been used as a seal on wax as a way of signing documents. It was common for signet rings to have intaglios during Roman times so the bearer could press their seal into wax as an official seal. The subjects and carving style and level of artistic skill involved would depend on the owners taste and financial means. This ring is cast in bronze and has a wonderful patina from age. Great collectable piece of wearable history.
