Antique Georgian Black Enamel 10ct Gold & Plaited Fair Hair Art Mourning Brooch

This delightful, Antique gold and black enamel mourning keepsake brooch features ash blonde braided hair, set behind crystal glass. The fine Georgian brooch is engraved with 'Caroline Anna Lydia' to the rear in a flowing calligraphy script. Mourning jewellery was very popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialise a departed loved one or given as a keepsake for a loved one in their absence.

This stunning example has a beautiful ornate floral border surrounding the glass with black enamel sandwiched between gold frames. The workmanship is precise and elegant. Mourning jewellery pieces are highly collectable and this particular example would be a delightful addition to any collection. It tested as minimum 10 carat yellow gold and presents well in great condition with small signs of use commensurate with age.
