Antique Ornate 9ct Gold & Banded Agate Cameo Brooch/Pendant & Secret Compartment

This is a fabulous cameo example, featuring an unusual secret compartment within the setting. The actual frame and setting of the cameo is made in 9 carat gold with a metal brooch pin to the rear. This stunning cameo dates to the early 1900's and has they C clasp closure used during this time. The rear of the cameo was probably originally used to hold a cherished photo of a lover or loved one. Inside the compartment could have been a space to keep a love note or lock of hair or whatever little keepsake the person wearing the cameo wished to hold close to them.

The decorative swirls are all hand engraved. The carving style is figurative and well executed, utilising the natural bands within the agate. It is an exceptional example of workmanship and a beautiful piece of history to wear or collect. This stunning piece can worn as a brooch or a pendant.
