Simply stunning and more than likely a specially commissioned piece made by a master craftsman. Appears to be made of Silky Oak, which would mean Australian made & looks to date to the Art Nouveau period, late 1800s / early 1900s. Carved in the middle are the letters KAP which at first we thought may have been fraternity related, ie Kappa Alpha Rho, but the most likely scenario is that the persons initials it was made for were KAP. The detail in the floral carvings is outstanding. The gallery post & rail sides give it a real rustic / country feel, enhancing the carvings. It’s quite large & measures 68cms x 35cms x 17cms high handles. Still very solid, there is a loss to one end of a handle with a few scattered tiny losses & scratches.
