Beautiful Antique Bronze 1920's Egyptian Revival Winged Blue Scarab Brooch 9.6g
This stunning Antique 1920's Egyptian revival, winged scarab brooch features a detailed blue scarab in a bronze setting. Over the years the bronze has taken on a rich, aged patina. The stylised wings are delicately feathered and the overall look of the piece is well made. To the rear, the brooch fitting is working but is a little bent. Fitted with the antique style C clasp. No marks or stamps to the brooch to determine the maker.
The scarab is detailed and appears to be a faience scarab, it has a slight glossy appearance. The scarab beetle had great significance in ancient Egyptian times and came to represent the eternal cycle of life. As the beetle rolled its dung ball, seemingly being guided by the sun, the scarab became a symbol of birth, life, death and resurrection. The scarab beetle is now synonymous with Egyptology and is still rolling its dung ball around today. A fascinating example of Egyptian revival jewellery to add to your collection of treasures.
