Stunning and very beautiful, this Egyptian revival style lapis lazuli scarab necklace is set in rich 18 carat yellow gold. The scarab is simplistically carved but is a delightful vivid blue lapis colour. The scarab is framed in an open setting with an ornate Egyptian lotus flower detail on the bale. Lotus flowers in Egyptian times were often represented as an unopened bud and were the embodiment of the 'perfection of wisdom'. This is in harmony with the symbolism of the scarab itself, which was widely used as a symbol of renewal and rebirth as the sun gold Khepri, the bringer of light, brought the sunrise over the horizon each day. Ancient Egyptians held the belief that scarabs were actually reincarnations of Khepri himself, with many depictions of the god with a scarab head, throughout Egyptian times.
This particular necklace is entirely made in 18 carat yellow gold and the beautiful figaro style chain has magnetic clasp ends for ease of wear. The necklace is in fabulous hardly used condition. This necklace will be a timeless favourite and is absolutely mesmerising.
