Beautiful Victorian Sterling Silver Repoussé Pill Box Birmingham 1875 13.9g
A stunning Victorian sterling silver pill box with hinged lid and beautiful repoussé work. Inside the surface has been gilded and this detail remains, completely intact, which is a delight when opening the lid. The detail of the repoussé acanthus leaves all around the box and on the lid is just spectacular. There is a blank cartouche to the top of the lid. The lid snaps closed beautifully and has a tiny thumb piece to assist in opening the box. Stamped to the bottom of the box with lion rampant, letter a for the year 1875, very faint head and the Birmingham anchor. Unfortunately, no makers stamp though. The anchor and the a stamp are also stamped to the area under the thumb piece.
This little box, is such a treasure, it may be small but it really commands presence. The condition is excellent considering its age, it must have had a very lucky life so far. It feels so nice in the hand and will fast become your favourite little pill box from your collection.
