Beautiful stylised swirl design, this sterling silver necklace set with a gorgeous faceted amethyst is a real show stopper piece. The necklace was made in Mexico and stamped with Taxco Sterling and SLC. Since 1979 a letter and number mark has been used to denote the place, silversmith and guarantee the sterling standard. The first letter indicates location, for this piece it is a T for Taxco, the second letter is the first initial of the surname of the jeweller and the number is the amount of times that surname has been registered. Unfortunately, at this stage only the prominent makers are known and other artists are not yet identifiable or records have not been preserved from the original registration.
This beautifully made piece is by an unknown yet highly skilled artisan and showcases the skill of the jewellery pieces coming out from Taxco from the 1970's onwards. This necklace is in stunning condition and looks to have been only lightly worn. The necklace is quite short at only 37 cm and is designed to worn short like a choker. It could easily be adjusted with a little extra chain to increase the length.
