Description
Make no mistake, this is an unbelievably rare poster. Recently professionally restored, its missing approx 3cms on the left hand side & 2 cms on the right hand side, there are some losses to the bottom & top edges. It’s a lithograph poster made of thick cardboard & measures 50cms x 76cms. It has been temporarily attached to cardboard backing with a hole cut out to the rear to show the QR sticker
The RMS Moldavia was launched on the 28/3/1903 by owners P&O Steam Navigation Co and was subsequently purchased by the British Navy in 1915 as a result of the outbreak of WW1 & converted to an armed Merchant Cruiser, it was torpedoed & sunk in 1918. To the rear is an official Queensland Railways “To Station Master” label. The poster would have been displayed behind glass at major stations such as Central to promote passenger travel from Australia to England.
