Description
Exquisite Anton Michelsen Danish Silver & Enamel Queen Margrethe's Cup 105g
Exceptionally crafted Queen Margrethe cup in sterling silver, white enamel and guilded in gold. The cup was made by Anton Michelsen of Copenhagen, who was the founder of one of the most important jeweller families in Denmark. These stunning cups are becoming very collectable and it is easy to see why. The little cup is highly decorative with eight gadroon shaped panels, fluted outwards, each section divided by a fine twisted wire accent. The top and middle sections of the cup are decorated with a chased foliage pattern and under the enamel is a pretty tiered garland design. The guilloche enamel is a beautiful pearlescent creamy white hue and is entirely intact. The cup sits neatly on a flat base which gives great stability to the piece. There is just a tiny nick to the outside edge of the base, which is hardly noticeable. It is a fantastic, very collectable little cup with a rich history and finely formed structure.
