Very Rare Vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak First Series A Automatic Wrist Watch with Box reference 5402st in unpolished condition. The original tapisserie dial with raised steel batons and original hands is signed Audemars Piguet Automatic AP swiss made. The cal 2121 automatic wind movement is working we have left as purchased, amp 240 loosing 4 secs a day beat error 0.4ms dial side up. The stainless steel 39mm case is in good original condition, fully signed on the back Royal oak No A 12** we have blurred the pic to protect the last 2 digits of the serial number. With original stainless steel bracelet that will fit a wrist of 180mm or less. The watch apears to be unpolished, wear to bracelet consistant with age, a few minor chips to edge of the glass, and comes with original box just missing its insert.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was unveiled at the 1972 Basel Fair to mixed reactions. This was in part because of the design, which was considered futuristic for the time, but also because of the price - the steel Royal Oak cost CHF3,650, which was more expensive at the time than many gold watches. That said, recent and as yet unpublished studies by the Audemars Piguet Heritage Department show that more than 1,000 watches sold during the two first years.
