Description
This stunning antique rare Marcus & Co 14 ct. yellow gold coat of Arms wax seal stamp features an attractive green onyx handle. The piece dates from the late 1890 - early 1900's as the founder Herman Marcus had opened his own shop with his son William, at 857 Broadway, New York in 1892. Herman had previously worked on designs for Tiffany & Co and was well known and respected by the New York Jewellery community. Originally from Germany, Herman moved to America in 1850 bringing his skills and knowledge of European trends from previous employment at Ellemeyer, the court Jewellers of Dresden. This beautiful piece by Marcus & Co features fine detailed engravings of an unknown family crest with attractive flourishes and flour-de-lis. The 14 ct. gold section is stamped 14k as well as the makers mark Marcus CO. The gold stamp was also tested as 14ct or above. This item is highly collectable and will only become rarer to find such a fine quality item in great condition.
