For sale is an incredibly rare grouping of 20 original silver gelatin 20.5cms x 15.5cms photographs taken by Frank Hurley, who was one of only two official Australian WW1 photographers. Taken at the Western Front during 1917 / 1918 & centered around Ypres in the Flanders region of Belgium. Hurley was also the official photographer on the Shackleton expedition to Antartica 1914 - 1917. All photographs have been laid down to card, back to back, a total of 10 cards / 20 photographs. Some of the photographs are numbered to the front as they appeared on the original negatives. One photograph is partially detached from the backing, with the number 7 and a partial outline of another number can be seen hand-written. At a recent Australian auction sale in late 2020, similar photographs sold for astonishing prices. The photos are in excellent condition, far better than depicted in our photo’s. A once in a lifetime chance to acquire a large collection of rare Hurley photographs !!!
