Vintage Israeli Sterling Silver Filigree Sealed Mezuzah Scroll Case & Chain 51g

This vintage Israeli sterling silver ornate Mezuzah scroll case and chain are a beautiful addition to any collection. The actual word Mezuzah means doorpost in Hebrew. The intricately engraved design adds a touch of decoration to the piece, making it a perfect item for display or use. The provenance and era of the Mezuzah are unknown, as it is stamped only with 925 and Israel. It does look to have a bit of age and could be possibly Mid-Century. The scroll case is designed to hold a Mezuzah scroll, which is a section of the Torah, is traditionally hung within homes on the door posts, for protection and blessings.

The parchment scroll is a hand written extract from the Torah and has to be precise with all letters perfectly scribed, only written by an expert Sofer. The words form part of an ancient protection ritual. This particular Mezuzah is sealed and the contents have not been opened to investigate further. This adds to the allure of the piece and preserves its contents, though also cannot guarantee what the contents are. The chain adds a practical element to the piece, allowing it to be worn or hung up within the home, as they were traditionally designed for. This is a must-have for any collector of religious or cultural items.
