Vintage Mid-Century Mexican Corpus Artisans Doris Sterling Silver Belt Buckle 17.9g

This stunning example of Mid-Century sterling silver is made by one of the few female figures of the Mexican 20th Century Silver Renaissance, Doris Smith Chamberlain. Doris was born in Texas but decided to follow her dreams of opening a silver workshop in Mexico during the 1940's. She had studied silversmithing in California previously before settling in Mexico city. She would continue to create her designs and also commission work from some of the best Mexican artisans.

Doris' work is instantly recognisable and showcases her skilled craftsmanship, not only in her designs but her sensitive treatment of precious metal. She would sign her work with Corpus Artisans Doris, Mexico and Silver. This particular example features an almost Aztec themed face or creature. The belt buckle pin is working as it should and the delightful piece has aged well despite its vintage. A fabulous piece to add to your collection with Doris' jewellery being particularly collectable.
