Description
For sale is a rare WW1 21.5cms x 16.5cms press photograph with an official A.I.F Copyright stamp to the rear. “Australian Official Photograph. COPYRIGHT. Taken by official photographers of the Australian War Records Section and supplied by A.I.F. Publications Section, Australia House” The photo was taken by Frank Hurley, who was one of only two official Australian WW1 photographers. Taken at the Western Front c1917 / 1918 & centered around Ypres in the Flanders region of Belgium. Hurley was also the official photographer on the Shackleton expedition to Antartica 1914 - 1917. At a recent Australian auction sale in late 2020, similar silver gelatin photographs sold for astonishing prices. This photo is in nice condition with marks & foxing to the rear and is slightly curled. (Note that it is not Silver Gelatin) A rare opportunity to acquire a WW1 Hurley photograph !!!
